    It Is Time For Obama To Release His Birth Certificate

    There's no question about it.  The people have the right, no the obligation, to see the President's birth certificate.  I don't even care if it says he was born in Kenya.  Because, says Donald Trump, if Obama releases his birth certificate, Trump will make his tax returns public.

    Trump's tax returns would be a fun thing to read.  For the many creditors that he's bilked over the years, these returns might prove useful in bankruptcy court.  For the many of us who believe that trump has exaggerated his wealth, these returns might prove us right.  For the many of us who are worried about how the rich evade taxes, these returns might prove instructive.

    Trump is not a serious candidate for the presidency, but the release of his tax returns and the laying bare of his personal finances might actually kill his celebrity.  He is his myth, after all and the President's birth certificate is now the vorpal sword that can, snicker snack, put it to rest.

    Also, I just wanted to write a blogpost calling on Obama to release his birth certificate.  Do these people think it's in captivity somewhere?

    I don’t doubt that Dr. Fukino is accurately reporting that the document she saw says that AKA Obama was indeed born in Hawaii.  The question is what kind of document she see?  Hawaii has four kinds of birth documents

    “Laws of the Territory of Hawaii ACT 96 To Provide For The Issuance Of Certificates Of Hawaiian Birth http://tiny.cc/254e6 was in effect from 1911 until 1972 and allowed someone who was born outside the Hawaiian Islands to be registered as though he were born in Hawaii. Under that law, someone simply would have presented herself to the Hawaiian authorities and declared that the child was born in Hawaii. The person could have sworn under oath and presented witnesses and other evidence. If the authorities accepted it, that was the end of it. All a person had to do was file a false statement and Hawaii took them at their word.

    One could not just say "My kid was born in Des Moines but I want him to have a Hawaiian birth record," But if you lied, no investigation was conducted to validate your claim and the Hawaiian birth record was issued, no questions asked.

    Knowledge of this practice was wide spread and there are probably thousands of people who obtained Hawaiian birth records between 1911 and 1972 through the process of affidavits and witnesses, rather than through the records of hospitals and delivery doctors.

     

     Not the least of these was the president of the first Chinese republic.  Sun Yat-sen was born to a peasant family in the village of Cuiheng, China in 1866, but he had a Hawaiian birth certificate and was officially a citizen of the United States.  The wording on Sun Yat-sen’s Hawaiian birth certificate reveals that at age 18 he “made application for a Certificate of Birth. And that it appears from his affidavit and the evidence submitted by witnesses that he was born in the Hawaiian Islands.”  Appears?  It also appears that AKA Obama was born in Hawaii.  Does the AKA Obama birth certificate on file with the State of Hawaii have language similar to the birth certificate of SunYat-sen?

    The only way to know where AKA OBAMA was actually born is to view AKA OBAMA's original birth certificate on file in Hawaii to see what kind of birth certificate it is, and to examine what corroborating evidence supports what it says about AKA OBAMA's alleged place of birth. If the birth was in a hospital, as AKA OBAMA has maintained, such evidence would be the name of the hospital and the name and signature of the doctor who delivered him.

    There is a small textural difference between COLBs issued to those who were born in hospitals with full documentation and those who were given Hawaiian birth status through an affidavit process:

    Is this simply a question of where Obama was born or is his actual citizenship in question?  Would he not have inherited citizenship through his mother regardless of where he was born?  

    This tempest in a teapot over the meaning of 'natural born' seems to be taking the definition out of its original context in the Constitution.  There were still a lot of royalists living in the brand new United States so limiting the highest office to natural born citizens eliminated the possibility of an English monarch and most of its aristocrats from becoming President.

    Also I never really understood why John McCain's eligibility was not called into question as well in the 2008 election.  The US only leased property in Panama.

    Exactly Emma. Somehow these intellectually challenged conservatives cannot seem to understand that if your mother is a citizen of the US at the time of your birth, then you are too. It prompted me to make a snarky post about it years ago. This beast just won't die.

    Good point.  I never saw that mentioned.  Maybe this is another example of the GOP hurling fatuous charges at their opponents that in fact are applicable to themselves?

    I saw it mentioned but, like John McEnroe, McCain became a citizen as soon as his mother and military father, both US citizens, brought him back to the US as a child. Had either man stayed overseas until 18 or 21, it would have been more complicated.

    So, I'm confused.  No, actually it is you who is confused.  It is very easy to understand, and is clear as a bell that there is no issue here...unless you happen to be someone who just can't stand the fact that we have a black President.  Get over yourself.  He was elected, and he is waaaaaay smarter than you are.  Painful, isn't it?  But it is true.
