the fall of a great house

It could turn out to be a mistake if one has skeletons in ones closet to invite scrutiny of the same.

Notwithstanding his gargantuan appetite for publicity Donald Trump may have, through his  profound vanity, underestimatedthe criminal and financial exposures accumulated in 30 years of playing fast and loose.

The recent decision by the New York attorney general to disqualify the Trump Foundation from receiving donations on account of a routine filing that was overlooked and the acknowledged  diversions of foundation funds into personal benefit which was so poorly disguised makes it evident that detail and attention to detail has not been a priority for Trump.

When the bona fides  of the $950 M tax loss come under granular deconstruction  I suspect that Donald Trump personally and his estate more broadly could see a serious recoupment demand from the IRS after January.

Trump better win...he is rolling the deep scrutiny dice and his track covering so far is ragged.

And we haven't even scratched the mob stuff...two words:Roy Cohn...

People were waiting for the October surprise, here it is. Coked up tweets at 3A.M., tax dodges, charity scams, ties to Iranian terrorists, ties to Russians, and misogyny. Trump is a criminal piñata.

I am  put in mind of the thousands of guys doing time because they bragged at a bar about a crime they had gotten clean away with.

He has real criminal exposure, because at some point the perjured  filings (about which he has, classically, bragged) bite you in the ass.

Let's put it in perspective - he's a petty criminal piñata - greedy but short fingers.

The Trump University trial will now include additional RICO evidence, viz, the Trump  Foundation misdeeds--To prevail in a civil RICO case, the plaintiff must show a pattern of practice, making admissable much otherwise irrelevant evidence.

And he has been a one-man malice machine.

So many people hate him, especially his ex-associates, partners, employees, and vendors!

Tony Schwartz, the ghostwriter who spoon fed HRC the "loan from your father" dig, is under a VERY SERIOUS NONDISCLOSURE AGREEMENT.

He has apparently, run out of fucks to give, and is fielding a demand from Trump's lawyers to pay back all the money he has ever made off the book (which is a lot...)

If Trump is elected, we will have President Pence because Donald may be going to the pokey.

I think so.  People are just lining up to snitch him off...

here's a totally gratuitous dig from the guy who authenticated the return, Mitnick, who was also( Fred Trump's accountant, evidently)

The Times story cited Trump’s former accountant, Jack Mitnick, as recalling that Trump’s former wife, Ivana Trump, “almost always” asked more questions about their annual tax returns than her then-husband. Mitnick said he couldn’t address details of Trump’s finances, the Times reported, but he did discuss Trump’s approach to taxes, describing his “brash and undisciplined style” and contrasting it with the attention to detail of his father, the late Fred Trump.

Surely more tax return leaks are coming--you don't have access to just three pages from twenty five years ago without access to the rest.

Speculation is that Marla Maples leaked the tax return. If true she would only have access to a few returns, the years they were married and filed a joint return.

Ahh....(The best sex she ever had).

Mark Cuban is happy to provide the more granular deconstruction of the loss...

Josh Marshall pointing out the mechanics of the debt-based operating loss  is the operational definition of how, in future histories of the Rise and Fall of Donald Trump, it may be said that without the scrutiny that his run for president has drawn, Trump might have lived a  happy and prosperous old age...

It would be elucidative to have a retrospective view of the fate of the 915 million note.  How much as been paid, and to whom.

If little or none, it sounds like Cuban's scenario.

    Cuban thinks so too....

It's fun watching the Clintonites try and fail to make something from this old business loss that Trump survived and moved on from to become more successful. The IRS was in business during these tough times for Trump and they had no problems with how he recouped some of his losses through the tax code and they have been very involved in his taxes for the last decade with not a peep of scandal or crime.

What a Clintonite capitalist pig such as Mark Cuban has to say about this old story is just opinion and speculation without any facts or knowledge to back it up but rumor mongering seems about all the Clintonites have today to dig out of their basket of dirty tricks.

No capitalist likes to relive their failures or losses so this stolen document release is embarrassing for Trump but there isn't much else important in them except for the pundits to spin their clueless tales.

I take it then that you would have no hesitation, were you unfortunate enough to be Deadbeat Donald's advisor, detailing how the 915 million stands today?  An audit of that loss, as they say?

Apparently what Trump did was legal. Whether it's important is a matter of opinion. It's a blatant example of a tax code with benefits for the rich. And Trump is proposing changes that increase those benefits for people who are extremely wealthy. His tax changes benefit him.

The theory is that cutting taxes on the most wealthy in our society will spur investment and produce such an increase in GDP that everyone will benefit from increased employment and increased salaries. This has been tried several times, most recently in Kansas. I've seen little evidence that it's true.

As far as tax plans the choice is clear. Trump proposals are traditional republican plans on steroids. Even bigger tax cuts than previous republican plans, the vast amount going to the richest Americans including himself. Hillary's tax plans are traditional democratic plans. Increased taxes on the richest Americans to invest in infrastructure, 500 million solar panels, childhood and college education.

It may have been legal under one framing of a set of assets, and if he has really been audited every year (which would suggest that the IRS was taking a longitudinal view) that would of course militate towards the likelihood that he had accrued no criminal liability.....

    but

It IRS is overworked and if he papered a layer or two of phony companies over the debt service he might have skated--we know he is willing to file perjured evidence, and stuff that gets a second look...

Eh, "The IRS ....had no problems with how he recouped some of his losses through the tax code and they have been very involved in his taxes for the last decade with not a peep of scandal or crime." How the f*** do you know? Are you the fly on the IRS wall? How many times was he audited, how many times did the IRS object to his claims, how many times did he hide or play shell games with gains?

I've seen a half-dozen cases where he misused his Foundation's tax-exempt status, other people's money and over contributed to political causes with charity money, plus buying himself personal items from charity money. But you just assume his undisclosed IRS audits all were easy. Here's a guy who was caught avoiding luxury and city tax on jewelry by having the jewelers ship empty boxes out of state, but then testified against the jewelers. Peter, you're unbelievable.

Peter calls Mark Cuban a capitalist pig, Peter then give his full support to capitalist failure Donald Trump.

Your pearl clutching and finger pointing at 'that man' is a bit over dramatic and i doubt your half dozen supposed cases  will amount to much if anything but Clintonites must persist in behaving, as someone described them, as political Guinea Worms to  serv the Red Queen.

The Clintonites can't attack Trump on foreign or even domestic policy because it would expose her as an extremist neoliberal and warmonger far to the right of Trump's positions unless you beileve her campaign lies about raising taxes on her friends and supporters, the wealthy.

I wonder who Kissinger was buying shiny baubles for when he got the special celebrity deal from the NYC jeweler?

The Clinton "scandals" have never amounted to much, but you parade the slightest innuendo as gospel. But Trump gets fined and has to refund money and you act as if I'm speculating. (reported by NY Times and other papers, not the Clinton campaign).

The New York Attorney General just shut the Trump Foundation down for not having the needed permit to operate all these years - hallucinations? You and Mike Pence should get a room - ability to pretend the obvious doesn't exist and just plow ahead.

The Clintonites have attacked Trump over and over for his nonsense foreign policy, taking Iraq's oil, ceding Syria to Russia, and telling Iran and Saudi Arabia what to do, and his crazy abandonment of treaty obligations in the Pacific and Baltic that encourage North Korea and Russia. Perhaps you live under a rock, but the rest of us don't.

And what the fuck does Kissinger have to do with this?

Peter, you are the only one unraveling. You are defending a con artist. Trump University is a scam. The Trump charity is a funnel for money to Trump himself. Trump is on coke and sending out tweets at 3 A.M.  Trump has guaranteed that Hillary will be the next President. You are a Trumpkin to the bitter end.

Oh yes, October Surprise coming, when the Great Trumpkin rises out of the Trumpkin Patch - cleared to make way for a golf course and highrises, of course, and Ivanka offered up as some kind of sleazy pagan goddess.

    Melania has been disappeared.

Trophy wives come and go - the heiress belongs with the false Hierophant.

     sleazy pagan goddess.

We're finally on the same page...she actually has already qualified for that--bear in mind Trump's Shin Bet nickname, Abu Shiksa, which derives from the Kushner matriarch's question at the first Seder to which Jared brought Ivanka  "He's bringing the shiksa?"

Oh G-d, now he's going to crush me with the Kaballah.... uncle, I cry uncle....

Hair Furor domestic policy: cut taxes on himself, the living rich and dead rich and of course corporations.

Hair Furor foreign policy: help Putin resurrect the Soviet empire.

Hair Furor budget policy: explode the deficit to achieve the GOP goal of turning Medicare. into a block grant progam to states to use as they wish, while also enriching Wall Street with accounts/privatization of Social Security.
