The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

MD has a lot to lose if Obamacare is repealed

Maryland, particularly Montgomery County, has become a bright spot in the national health-care picture. From 2012 to 2015, subsidies to health insurance purchasers and the expansion of Maryland’s Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act caused the percentage of uninsured Marylanders to fall from 10.1 percent to 6.7 percent. The national average is 9.4 percent. . .

    Congrats on the op-ed

    Thank you.

    Congratulations, Hal!  Nice piece ...

Excellent research and presentation of facts.

    Two comments at WaPo, one:

It's not taking money from Medicaid. It's limiting future expansion to whoever is on the rolls as of 2020.

Sorry Trumpkins, if it wasn't cutting Medicaid money it couldn't balance the tax cuts for the rich,  Congressional reconciliation rules mandate fiscal balance.

And yes, the Medicaid cuts are back loaded after 2020, so the criminally corrupt crop of Republicans can escape the scene of the crime, and as they assume their base will forget they, not liberals, are the ones who are sending our healthcare system into collapse to enrich the plutocrats who control the GOP.

And yes, the Medicaid cuts are back loaded after 2020, so the criminally corrupt crop of Republicans can escape the scene of the crime ...

Which is especially useful if Democrats control the majority by 2020, and are therefore left to take the heat and try to manage the fallout.

Likely the Dems will be blamed for the fallout by the right wing, and the media will "both sides it":

And to restore the revenue lost with the tax cuts on the rich, as the Dems cannot use reconciliation, they'll need a new law, that means 60 Senators behind it, and the House snd the Presidency.....

..... and the Republicans figure that will not happen and they can block restoring the taxes (which the Dems passed in 2009 when they did have the above control).

Thank you for the compliment and the comment!

    interesting piece! Nicely done!

    Thank you!
