It is commonplace to respond to the fear of gun confiscation, (virtually universally voiced by anti-registration zealots) with a soothing tut-tut, coupled with strenuous oaths forswearing the passage of any law which might reach into the extant stash of any armed citizen in order once and for all to rid society of a manifest source of misery.

In March of 2009, Baby had just flown cross-country from visiting her sister in Seattle, bringing a rubbing of Jimi Hendrix's headstone, and a nice chunk of hash which she had tucked into a private place available only to ladies.  While she and I were upstairs at the farm enjoying some quality time, our then host, Ray, pocketed the hash.  Naturally she went nuts thinking she had simply lost it, and finally left the farm to return home.  Ray proudly produced the hash.

The degrading squabble over the level at which a nation still retaining some small capacity for shame will say "Below this wage, by irrefutable presumption, labor is uncompensated, ergo (implicitly) slavery", serves only to distract the working class, the surplus value of whose labor is being stolen, from the fact of the theft;

We need a maximum  ratio by which the most highly compensated may command the compensation of multiples of their fellow humans.

By the time "Imagine" (the Hippie Internationale...) was being sung, I had completed the transition from teary, to weeping to uncontrollable sobbing.

If he had retained enough cognitive function to know his own name when he died (he didn't...) Ronald Reagan would be spinning like a top.

Va. Attorney General race recount aborted--attempted theft by fraud exposed.

A strange thing just happened on the way to a (true blue) full Democratic sweep of Virginia .

 

The Attorney General election ended with a razor thin victory by the Democrat, Mark Herring. (169 votes out of millions cast).

 

This being well within the .5% margin entitling the loser to a recount, Mark Obenshain availed himself of the statutory remedy.

 

Several days into the recount, he decided to concede, rather than let it run its course.

 

Huh??!!

I have in the past, in colloquy with the lamented, gone-but-not-forgotten Articleman, urged the utility of deconstructing the arguments advanced by the Department of Justice as offering guidance to their inherent devotion (or the contrary) to civil liberties.

Louis Scarcella, Brooklyn homicide detective (retired), was not a guy you would want to meet, especially if you were a person of color who was innocent of a crime that needed to be cleared. (Cops dislike inventory just like Walmart dislikes unsold crap).

 

If you have not been following the saga, Scarcella had amassed a remarkable,( indeed incredible...) series of successes bringing quick arrests and smooth convictions in hundreds of homicides.

There is an interesting congruence between the waiver claimed by Hobby Lobby vis-a-vis contributing fungible resources to a purpose they loath, and the waiver granted a conscientious objector who ref.uses to take an active role in combat.

 

Both are asking to be excused from  participating in that which they  find odious.
