The intra-Palestinian meeting in Moscow has precedent

Russia's hosted such meetings in the past, most recently Feb 2019
Russia has long lamented the US' "monopolization" of the peace process & tried to carve out a niche for itself: mediating among the disunited Palestinians/2

Location: U.S. Embassy and residential compounds
Events: Heavy gunfire is occuring around the area of the U.S. Embassy and residential compounds adjacent to the Trutier area of Tabarre. All Embassy personnel have been instructed to remain indoors and shelter-in-place until further notice. All others should avoid the area.
Actions to take:

- Avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people;
- Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; and
- If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.

I do believe there still is a significant amount of anti-semitism within the upper classes in England to be a hindrance to social climbing, that's due to personal reports from Brit friends who are of Jewish heritage. And then they've got all the lowlife stuff that still afflicts many countries and cultures including the U.S.
All that said when I went to the the link to CST.org on incident tracking that CNN provides, first thing I see is this
It very curiously sounded a lot like this recent news item I posted ARE HATE CRIMES IN US PEAKING? AMID INCREASED POLARIZATION, HATE CRIMES DROP where reported incidents drop the first six months and then well then but but but maybe they'll go up, it's traditional that they are down the first six months yadda yadda.
And then I think it's all in the eye of the beholder when you're playing in the Victim Olympics. It's a tough sport. Hard to quantify how many mean mad people there are out there and then you have to figure who and what they hate the most. When a leader gets the buzz going on specific variety of racist thinking, who's really to say? The problem, as always, is labeling a crime a hate crime. Because proving hate requires investigating thought crimes in addition to actual crimes.

And much of the stuff that "increased" was say graffiti or comments, which were down last year over previous years. But actual physical acts of violence were down. Maybe threats as well, I forget. But it's like someone wading into a report and they're going to pull out something to support concern trolling, & then they interview 1 person who's considering leaving as a thorough background to the story, with an "expert" saying there might be more. (not that Brexit doesn't have a helluva lot of people fleeing the UK, much bigger numbers than these guys are discussing). Just worth considering how the news is baked these days.

Rarely is any crime committed without thought and police almost always investigate the thought crimes that lead up to the actual crime. A son removes the equipment keeping his mother alive. In one case she was in extreme pain and begged her son to remove the life sustaining equipment. In another the mother made no such requests. The son was in debt and wanted his inheritance. Same crime, same punishment? Or should the thoughts behind the crime be investigated and perhaps affect the punishment? This is why we don't have a crime of murder but several crimes related to murder all with slightly different definitions and punishments. The thought behind the crime almost always matters and is always part of the investigation whether it's deemed a "hate" crime or not.

The other hate article AA posted had this, AA calling these not so reassuring facts "nuance":.
BTW, could be a Malheur Refuge type Trumper on the Manafort jury.
Trump is jury tampering to confirm the "witch hunt".....rest assured, Dershowitz would say it's the prerogative of a President, as chief law enforcement officer, to use his power to influence a jury's verdict.

The method used to determine the number of hate crimes is clearly flawed. Groups who are possible targets of hate crimes do not breathe sighs of relief when numbers go down. The homicide rate has gone down in many urban areas. The community wants even lower numbers.
Many communities do feel that there should be extra penalties when people are targeted specifically for being a member of a target group. Prosecutors are going to use hate crime laws to send a message that these crimes are associated with higher legal penalties.
An argument for hate crime laws despite the flaws in counting numbers

# of calls re: blacks may be higher than anecdotal as I implied - would be good to know if an actual trend and why (can easily blame it on Trump, but likely other reasons).
Anyway, this tweetfest got me thinking (including a gun pointed at Marsellus' head when he opened the door, not that everything has to involve a celebrity)

Trump enters into the picture because he is doing nothing to help the situation. Similarly, Republicans are known for for trying to keep blacks from voting. Dislike for Trump and his fellow travelers would remain even if hate crime numbers were precise and there was a downward trend
Celebrities get attention, but the protest marches. we’re for the unknowns.

Perhaps didn't make it clear: the comments referenced in the tweets showed a lot of wrong suspicious calls to police - referencing Trump doesn't provide much background info as to why more calls are happening (if they are). Like it'd be nice to focus on 1 question at athe time.
by PeraclesPlease on Sun, 08/19/2018 - 1:14pm
I was addressing the point about why the calls were occurring. As you note, it may not be Trump, but Trump comes up in discussion of causes for a reason. If you see Trump calling a black woman a dog and black men SOBs, it is not unreasonable to assume Trump is giving license to consider black people threats.

We get it. You believe a president, and especially this president, strongly affects society as a role model. You've messaged that a gazillion times. The problem is that you write as if everyone on Dagblog plans to vote for him and you must perform a jihad to convince us not to. As if.
Even if one disagrees about how much the presidential role model affects society (some might actually think the opposite, that a nasty president, just like a nasty boss, creates solidarity against him when there was little before) I just don't grok the reason for passionately repeating ad nauseum on this site that he is a racist. We know. And except for one user which you rarely interact with, we don't think of him as a role model.
What would be the purpose of continally trying to change someone's mind here to the P.O.V. that Trump is the main one causing more people to act racist when they wouldn't if he weren't there? And that racist incidents and beliefs are increasing because of him? What do you get from that? He's still there. But you seem to want to make people who don't necessarily agree with you on that one point into the enemy, when they want Trump gone too.
by artappraiser on Sun, 08/19/2018 - 5:38pm
I simply addressed why Trump came up in the mix of causes for bogus police calls. Nothing more, nothing less. Republicans as a group are also included in why these cases occur. Republicans are no longer doing dog whistles, they have taken to racist bullhorns. We want legislators and law enforcement to find solutions to people being put at risk for bogus police calls. The number of incidents is of lesser importance than the risk interactions with police pose.
