    THE WATER WE DRINK!

I am attempting (once again or fifty times again) to perceive some sort of order out of what can only be denominated as chaos.

    IT'S YOUR DECISION

It's your decision, I am not a scientist.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/01/21/1271338/-W-Virginia-Gov-on-Drinking-the-Water-It-s-Your-Decision-I-m-Not-a-Scientist?detail=email#

The Elected Governor of the Great State of West Virginia tells us that it is up to the wonderful folks in West Virginia whether or not they might take a drink from their taps or take a shower from their bathroom hook-up or whether or not they should let their children brush their little teeth in the sink!

    Now this bothers me much.

I got stuck in the Tampa Bay area of Florida for almost a year; more than a decade ago.

For three months, there was a threat of temperatures approaching +30'sF (from time to time).

I even recall local TV stations warning that some people might freeze over night since there was no heat available in thousands of homes in the area.

It is now -20F in the great State of Minnesota as I write this. Winds were around 20MPH today.

It is my humble opinion today, just as it was a decade ago, that if you wear the proper garments and cover up with enough blankets that you will not freeze to death when the atmosphere reaches +30F!

    Anyway, back to the subject:

9 months out of the year in the Tampa area, the weather was predicted as follows:

90F high with a 50% chance of rain.

    Every damn day!

Now, there was also a warning tagged onto these weather reports, at least 75% of the time' that one should not drink the water. That is, the local authorities warned us all not to drink the water!

So I boiled the water everyday before I drank it. I decided that I would boil a gallon of water each and everyday and then put that water in the fridge in a container.

    THE POINT?

If there are poisonous chemicals in the water rather than some biological types of threats in the water, BOILING THE WATER WILL NOT FIX YOUR HYDRO NEEDS!

I cannot get over this warning from THE GOVERNOR OF West Virginia (with other politicians standing behind him?).

    TAKES YOUR CHANCES.

    I am not a scientist?

WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN?

I recall doing a rant on Rubio, not so long ago.

When confronted with the possibility that politicians were going to erase the Theory of Evolution from our children's texts, Rubio noted that Rubio was not a scientist!

    http://dagblog.com/reader-blogs/rant-marco-rubio-what-do-i-know-15514

Well if you wish to graduate from Medical School, you might wish to know something about the theory of Evolution. Oh but there is micro evolution and macro evolution and besides all that I am not a scientist.

    Okay.

So Senator Rubio will never interfere into the West Virginian matter concerning clean water?

Hell, Rubio, just like the Governor of West Virginia could announce:

    HELL, WE ARE'NT CHEMISTS!

    Okay then!

    Listen people.

If we cannot trust our air and our water we are screwed!

I cannot recall a time or event when we as a people were so lied to based upon corporate greed!

Forget the Governor of Virginia who uses an old repub claim that the Feds hate me.

Forget that Governor of New Jersey claims that the Feds are after him because he is a 'small government' kind of guy.

    LISTEN TO ME!

We must only elect chemists and water experts and economy experts and ….

We must go Platonic. Just elect experts.

Except in the courts, we allow experts from 'both sides' to testify regardless of where or how they are paid for their testimony.

We have evil people running our state and Federal governments who deny knowledge about anything that involves science.

    Misrepresentation of safety tests

Richard, AA wrote a post, that I then followed the link provided. Which led me to an article about something killing ALL Americans and many don’t even know it.  All because of corporate greed

A parasite that destroys the body from within,  fed by something introduced into the food system, because of bribery. The government knew it was bad. but the money to ignore the evidence was too good.

The drawings and graphs the artist provided drove the point home, pulling back the curtain.

Rumsfeld and many other top officials had a hand in allowing the parasite to kill us

At the end of the video, there's a commercial; but I found found it acceptable, knowing someone had to pay to get the information out to the public, because our corrupt government, at the behest of a conglomerate of 45 major companies, paying to keep it quiet.

    http://keybiotics.com/video_toon17d.php

Well, it is being reported that 85 individuals (or is it families?) actually own half of the assets on this entire planet.

If the Governor of West Virginia said he drank the water, was pregnant, yet had no concerns at all, would that make you feel safer?

I hereby render unto NCD the Dayly Crude Line of the Day Award for this here Dagblog Site given to all of NCD from all of me!

    hahahahaah

Ha Ha, thanks. Of course if he did say that TeeVee News could find 2 to argue what he really meant. And replay the arguments 14 times.

    HAHHAAHAHHA

Of course in the olden days, one could argue about the 'purpose' of a photo. haahaha

So now we have propaganda groups that take care of this crap. hahahahah

Oh, he said this, but he meant that....hahhahaahah

I think or I hope that the dems use all these 'fragments' to their best advantage.

Just reply crap and then we shall win!

    I dunno.

Good point in the face of propaganda!

    Well put!

Now, I'm not a scientist, but I know when one is needed.  I'm not a politician, but I know when one is needed.  I'm not a mathematician, but I know when one is needed.  I'm not a lawyer, but I know when one is needed.  I'm not a plumber, but I know when one is needed.  I'm not a tax accountant, but I know when one is needed.  I'm not a corporate parasite, but I know they are never needed and must be eliminated so that everyone else can live and interact in the normal course of Life on this planet.

I find it mind-boggling that a state's water supply can be poisoned and yet there has been so relatively little anger about it.  Why aren't people rioting in the streets?  Why haven't torch carrying mobs hunted down the people responsible?  Are we so beaten down by our corporate overlords that we've lost our will? .

America has leaking toxic chemicals put there by a shady corporation 'Freedom Industries' founded by a 2 time felon, a crumbling infrastructure of low speed rail/old bridges/highways/airports, retail credit systems long obsolete in the rest of the world (no 'chip and PIN),  a former President/alleged war criminal in Texas painting pictures of dogs... and the leading topic to get the vote out in 2014 may be abortion....

Recently researching a trip to Europe and discovered high speed rail between London and Paris takes 2 1/2 hours, ticket cost is $62 dollars. The train tops out at 200 mph and arrives in the center of Paris.

The only high speed rail that I have heard of here was from LA to SF, and has been held up by potential CA central valley property owner lawsuits. I lived in the central valley of CA, most of it is a dusty wasteland on the western side. Want to get somewher fast in LA? Go to LAX.  Relic of 1960's infrastructure. You may find yourself walking thru a parking lot to get from one terminal to another.

Not to be outdone on 'trivial pursuit', the biggest recent discussion at Dag started with some story on homosexual sex in Nigeria. Is there any hope for this country?

Not to be outdone on 'trivial pursuit', the biggest recent discussion at Dag started with some story on homosexual sex in Nigeria. Is there any hope for this country?

That's a false dichotomy. There are reasons why some threads get a lot of comments and others don't. It has nothing to do with the importance of the issue. I'm sure most here could form a pretty good hypothesis why the Nigeria thread got so long.

Its likely that many here are active in their local community with issues important to that region. At least I hope many here do more than just post  and vote. But they might not have time to blog about the issue so it rarely comes up for discussion. Or if it does come up there may be  much agreement among the commenters so that many feel they have nothing to add. People tend to respond when they disagree. Rarely do people post just to say, "good comment" or, "I agree."

This FREEDOM INDUSTRIES of course, just declared bankruptcy and under Chapter 11 they set up some other bogus corporation to 'fund' the bankruptcy.

I smell RICO and I would hope that within a year or so (not a decade) that somebody is indicted and all of that somebody's assets taken by the Feds.

West Virginia politicians are not going to do anything about this.

It would be like seeing Cuccinelli indict the former Governor of Virginia back when he was Attorney General.

    That's what Feds are for!

    ♫ That's what friends are for ♫

    They’re all in bed together.

    Short answer... NO

This is how I perceive the issue:

If you just let capitalists (corporations) handle everything, you as a people can have all the ten dollar an hour jobs you want.

Full employment is yours if you just accept a few minor irritations.

Irritations involving the purity of your water and the purity of your air and the purity of your food...

I would bet my bottom dollar that these gated communities have multimillion dollar purification centers so that they might take baths and brush their teeth in their ten thousand dollar sinks!

    Oh well...

Yes, when people are afraid they'll lose the job they need to feed their family they're willing to eat almost any amount of shit. Look how the strike with Caterpillar ended. While earning record profits the previous year and projecting even better results next year they pushed for concessions from workers and got them. Fear and desperation is great for corporations.

Someone posted this Reich article but I'll repost it.

Red-state voters are paralyzed by economic anxieties

    http://www.salon.com/2014/01/17/robert_reich_red_state_voters_are_paraly...

Short people give us a lot a reasons to live, that is for sure.

    I love this guy.

    Nice link.

    Well put!

Reich is my favorite economist. A lot of blame might be put upon him because of his association with Clinton, but he has become a voice in the wilderness over the last decade.

What the hell is a mother to do?

Well, if there is the opportunity to change our entire corporate system or get a job, what the hell is a mother to do?

Wind power kills birds; coal power kills babies.

    the end

Fear and desperation is great for corporations.

And great for the government their money buys too..

Reich may be correct that in many cases red state voters may be paralyzed by economic anxiety.  Yet, they can be mobilized to get out and vote GOP by TeeVee propagated nonsense/ignorance, racism and 'hot button' issues like abortion. Many seem to believe that the guvment only helps minorities, and it can never help them.

Their last bit of imaginary dignity comes from believing, as bad as things may be, they are at least 'better off' than brown people. Voting Republican is like playing 'dress-up', pretend that they and Mitt are in the same exclusive club.

I recall this scene from a movie or documentary--my memory is so fuzzy I cannot even google the idea right now.

    Anyway...

A son is recounting a memory of his father who was White.

It seems that he had grown up on a farm and the farm abutting the family farm was owned by a Black man.

The father discovered that his neighbor had invested some profits into a second mule.

Following this discovery, the neighbor's second mule had been shot dead.

The narrator noted that when he confronted his dad, he was told:

It aint right that a Black man should have two mules and yet, I only have one.

I was quite taken by this scene. I may even have made a written note of it, but I cannot find the damn thing.

Folks do not always vote their pocket book, like that guy noted in his book years ago in Kansas.

I harken back to the era of FDR.

The racists and many other factions united against the corporations.

It was a coalition that was bad for Blacks and yet the Administration somehow helped minorities in a manner that had not been seen before. There were regs put into force that forbade discrimination at the work place for instance.

All politics is based upon coalitions.

The old days are gone, as it were.

We are never going to be able to bring in Tea Partiers who despise mega corporations; especially international concerns.

And yet there are Tea Partiers who really wish to do something about those evil empires.

Nowadays, if our President is for something, the Tea Partiers are against it. Period.

It is nuts, but I see no way to cure this situation.

    I liked the Marx video.

We are never going to be able to bring in Tea Partiers who despise mega corporations; especially international concerns.

We might have had a chance, till Biden and Obama went after the NRA.

Why did the Democrats, who need these members of the Tea party, to help form a coalition to fight the mega corporations,  take and put a stick in the eyes of those, who'll most likely support the Second Amendment. Was it not common knowledge who supports whom

Those who love mega corporations and align themselves with that coalition;  couldn't have been more pleased, to see the peasants led by Obama and Biden, fight amongst themselves, rather than focusing on them (the real bad guys who are getting more stronger as we delay)

I am not alone in believing and seeing the results; that Obama and his administration, had the bully pulpit; to help rally the troops against these meg corps, but instead Obama  AGAIN redirected the peoples anger, just as he did, when the government bailed out the banker class, and scapegoat poor homeowners.

People need to come to their senses, all these trade policies for the benefit of the Mega corporations, are going to further decimate the middle class.

Those in power don't need us; we're broke.

    You have a point.

I gave up on gun control sometime ago although I have my reservations.

If I have a biz, can I not demand that 'clients' refrain from bringing guns into my enterprise?

If I am a judge, might I not have the power to criminalize all weapons in my court?

    Oh well, enough of that.

Guns equal empowerment and the individual's empowerment has evaporated. I mean the powers that be have enough law behind them to enslave everyone, all the time.

I watch meter readers sometimes on cable. What the hell else, all we have is Law & Order and CSI and ten other serials all day long.

    Anyway, about your points...

Yes, what the hell has Obama or Clinton done with regard to corporations who control the entire planet let alone the good ole US of A?

As far as what repubs would do if they were in power?

They would empower corps to cheat us even more!

Somehow, someway, we must put together a new coalition of interests!

Hell, I hate abortion but damn, what are my credentials with regard to the abortion issue when a doctor is in charge?

Yet Coburn, who is retiring due to health concerns, is a damn doctor?

I have more questions than answers.

We, the People must answer these questions.

The family farm is gone, gone, gone. And the corps are responsible.

The corner store is gone, gone, gone. And the corps are responsible.

Mega bucks are claimed to be 'earned'? BULLSHITE!

I am going on too long now.

But damn, there must be some way to form a new coalition!

Like Louis CK notes at the beginning of every episode:

WE ARE ALL GOIN TO DIE!

    ha

    I dunno.

    Allan Jackson - Little Man

This is a false dichotomy. as if we need to give up on sensible gun regulation to fight corporate dominance of our economy. Its not either or. At any rate I don't think there's a chance it would work. Even if we embraced the craziest wing of the tea party on gun control they still wouldn't join us in the fight against corporations. We'd just lose the moderates and the progressives.

I hate this idea that we need to form new coalitions. Especially not with the tea party that I disagree with 98% of the time. On many issues we need to make decisions on where we are going as a country. One side will win, the other side will lose. Abortion is the clearest example of this. The anti abortion groups want to outlaw all abortions. They're chipping away at the right not to enact sensible regulations determining the degree of legality but to pave the way for making it illegal. We as a country need to decide, illegal or legal. If the side I support wins only can we make the compromises deciding the degree of legality

Imagine a future, where the Tea party and 2nd Amendment folks, flood the airwaves during the next election cycle with messages that in affect says "If you vote for a democrat, they're coming for the guns"

A lesson in political posturing, is taking place in the Ukraine now

Yanukovich's latest offer appeared to have been both a concession and an adroit strategy to put the opposition in a bind

    http://www.france24.com/en/20140126-ukraine-riots-opposition-presidents-offer-/

VP Biden and Obama tried to play a gambit;  Guns on one side and corporate power on the other side. Would it surprise anyone to believe; the Gun rights folks would really compromise, their Second amendment rights away?

So with the help of Obama 's failed strategy play,  corporate power gets more deeply entrenched and I suspect the scapegoat will be the Second amendment folks?

Who really thought the Second Amendment folks would compromise?

Hmm I wonder how much more, the corporate powers will put a stranglehold on us with the assistance of those in power?

On many issues we need to make decisions on where we are going as a country. One side will win, the other side will lose.

Heres another scenario  WE all lose and the corporations win.

Imagine a future, where the Tea party and 2nd Amendment folks, flood the airwaves during the next election cycle with messages that in affect says "If you vote for a democrat, they're coming for the guns"

That lie has been told for years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When you've got conservative Supreme Court Justice Scalia and a majority of the public supporting reasonable gun regulation I don't think that lie will play much longer.

Why does every thread you take part in have to be about gun control?

Because it will be an issue in the upcoming elections as has been already been demonstrated in local races, where each side has been heard and the voters have chosen.

Besides  DDs comments were about coalitions; in case you forgot.

Really;  I'm sorry I didn't comment about what you wanted to talk about; You can ignore my musings.

I just don't want folks to scratch their heads and wonder what happened and why some coalitions are and will be stronger.

At one time, I just couldn't understand why the President was handing the purse strings of the country over to the Republicans. I do believe I do now.

DD was talking about the water we drink, I think it's the koolaid.

where each side has been heard and the voters have chosen.

Terry McAuliffe just won in Virginia running unabashedly as a gun regulation advocate. Like I said, we win some, we lose some.

How close was the race?  I heard he barely eked out a win. But a win is a win. Good luck getting the legislature to work with him.

Well McAuliffe's lt governor, Ralph Northam, campaigned to ban assault weapons and for universal background checks. Mark Herring the AG also campaigned on gun control. Clean sweep for gun control in Virginia's top three races. Jennifer Wexton who won to replace Herring in the Virginia senate also supports gun control. Her win moved the senate to democratic control so I suspect McAuliffe might do alright getting the legislature to work with him.

Before the clean sweep in Virginia there was the recall election in Colorado. They attempted to recall four legislators and succeeded with two. Like I said we win some, we lose some. Of course there were the typical republican voter suppression tactics and a voter turnout of about 15%. But like you said, a win is a win no matter how its accomplished. Still, I'm not sure two wins out of four with only 15% voter turnout is a resounding victory for your point of view.

I'm comfortable with democrats running on reasonable gun regulation. The tide has changed. Polls show there are clear majorities that support most of the gun control proposals. I think its a winning issue for us, not all the time, but more often than not.

There are a big worry about the environment and what corporations are getting away with in the young adults. The small town in Texas are now fighting with everything they have to stop the fracking that is going on there and causing sink holes and constant earth quakes.  The contamination of drinking water does up set people.  They couldn't even bathe in it at first because of skin reaction.  They had reality of the lack of regulations reinforcement hit them along the side of the head.  There will be fall out from this politically.

There is a growing mistrust with the corporations in this country and their products they are making like GMO's in out food.  This topic pops up all the time in the food blogs and food articles.

The pictures that have come out of China this month is worse then any historical pictures of Britain or smog from cities in USA in the 1940's and 1950's.  It all points back to the lack of regulations that corporations enjoy there.  Young people see this stuff on their twitter feeds and react to it.

Some politician will run with this and when they do, they will win big.  The GOP has dumped on the young and women politically abusing them.  There is a pent up frustration among them.  That is were the heart of the new coalitions will come out of.

    Man, you got that right!
