Republican Candidate Dresses Up as Nazi

    Shocker

Incidentally, I posted the following video about a year ago (before the Daily Show's Nazi tourettes skit, which was far superior to my little creation of course).

Everyone once in a while, I get a fresh comment from someone who stumbles on it. Like these:

@xXTeneciousKXx This is just the beginning. Rosthchilds, etc. want there made up zionist blood religion to control everything. Zionist is not jew. I like judaism. Hitler attacked judaists cause he was zionist - finanaced by rosthchild and many other elites we are deling with right now. Rothchilds, Soros, rockafeller, etc. count on the laymens ignorance and media push to make muslims look like the enemy of US, Christians the enemy of Jews, etc - you tube Ted Gunderson

I had to stop at Anne Coulter. I just couldn't take it.

Like I noted in my Dana Milbank blog, fascist and Hitler are referenced on beckerhead's show hundreds of times.

If you are a fascist call everybody else fascists.

If you are a racist, call everyone else racist.

If you are a hundred millionaire, call everybody else robber barons.

If you are a corporate shill, call everyojne else corporate shills.

If you are a closet homosexual, call everyone else gay.

If you get all your money and power from corporate interests, call everyone else corporate pigs.

    It does not matter.

It is all advertising, all propaganda.

    There is no truth anymore.

If you are a Dick, call everybody else Richard?

Just don't call me late for dinner or the apocalypse.

It's a fascinating video you have gathered here. If you listen to the first few comments - wherein the object of the talk is not identified - you could very easily assume the speaker was referencing the tea party Republican Conservatives. Indeed, any student of history could draw no other conclusion. Yet - in a move that Goebbels would find most encouraging - they somehow manage to turn these arguments against the very victims they would like to target with the abuse they claim is targeted at them. It's masterful propaganda.

Most chilling, perhaps, is Beck's little talk near the end about "a Reichstag moment." He expresses fear about "another 9/11" that would trigger a reaction resulting in a Nazi-like takeover. In this, Beck and I share the same fear, although mine is based upon an accurate reading of what happened in Weimar Germany, whereas his is based upon the same calculation made by those actually responsible for the Reichstag fire. A good Nazi would first warn about the "socialists" ( or the Jews, or any one of "the other") burning down the Reichstag, and would then follow it up with surreptitiously torching the building while screaming "See? I told you so!" The follow-up would of course involve a takeover of government to protect it from these "others."

Another interesting bit of rhetorical flourish is the repetition of the "National Socialist" part of the "National Socialist Peoples Party" It is simply impossible to believe that Limbaugh and Beck and these others are sufficiently ignorant to a degree that would cause them to conflate the Nazis with Socialists. Are they legitimately concerned about some important issue confronting the electorate? Or are they instead engaged in fear-mongering as a means of strengthening their own indefensible position? Again, Goebbels wrote the book on this and would be very proud of his acolytes.

Scary stuff, this. We've seen this show before...

Thanks, SJ. You've read it perfectly. Indeed, you have precisely anticpated the central thesis of Blowing Smoke.

You mean I don't need to read the book? Nuts! 'Cuz I just pre-ordered it from Amazon for my kindle. ;O)

I look forward to the reading of your book and will be encouraging others to buy it as well. Good luck with sales, and I hope it leads to successful follow-up assignments and contracts. Lots of work, but you're on your way. Congratulations!
