I think I'm going with awesome on this one. I don't think it is done to disrespect MLK and it reminds you of the power of his words even when pitched in a played-out autotune that every two-bit rapper this side of the Pecos is using. I'd listen to this over Kanye West, anyday.
Seeing MLK at the Lincoln Memorial is more moving to me because I was lucky enough to see Obama inaugurated, and spent two days before the inauguration on the Mall, and seeing the Lincoln Memorial. I also have a thing about Lincoln. There is something about Lincoln, King, and Obama that stirs very deep personal feelings in me, something that ties them together.
And I love the clip. I commend to you also Doug Laurent's The Dream, which is an excellent uptempo sample of King's I Have a Dream speech. As they say on American Bandstand, it's got a good beat, and you can dance to it.
THE HORROR!!! Seriously. Why mess with a masterpiece and Dr. King's original cadence is just awesome.
I guess I should note I was also hating on all the Will.I.am Obama praise hymns too.
