Misrepresenting Liberty: Private Property Rights, Oppression and Ron Paul

Try to leave this place a little better than when you got here.

I can't remember if it was the debate this morning or last nights debate when Ron Paul blurted out; "I'm for Liberty!" I hate it when politicians deliberately talk in slogans and sound bites. But leave it to Ron Paul to have that as his slogan, and it was certainly different than every other Republican at their 38th debate.

Meet My Seattle -- A Stereotype That Fits

I don't know if I've inundated any of you with my undying love for and of Seattle. I have it. My grandmother was raised in Ballard, she graduated from the University of Washington. My family has a very long history in Seattle, Gram's mom came from Norway to Seattle, I know, I know, that is the typical story of the northwest immigrant in the 1880's and 90's.

Don't Google The Santorum Surge

And so it goes, it is time for the Santorum Surge in the GOP Primary as each of the not-Mitt former front-runners flame out like candles in a typhoon. We should review what has happened in this season of Republican's vying for the Presidency.

A Newt Burns White Hot

The White Hot rise of Newt Gingrich in the polls was unexpected for sure. Who'd thunk it, the biggest demagogue to inhabit a congressional seat since Sen. Joe (no relation to me) McCarthy, but  Newt the master manipulator has burned out quickly and without a major mistake! Who'd a thunk that? Not me for sure, having witnessed his man flame outs in the past.  What hurts Newt the most, is himself!

Republicans Cave Under the Weight of their Own Glorified Ego's

Poor Orange Boehner, he must have whiplash by now! First House Republicans say fine we will pass the payroll tax holiday. But once that word came down from the leadership, TBags and other Rockwell/Rothbard Libertarian goofballs then quickly took The Orange Boehner to the shower and sprayed off his newest tan.

The Evolution of Liberalism

Ultimately as liberals and progressives I think we get stuck in our definition of words. There are some people who define liberalism as a static rather than dynamic concept. But I would put out there that liberalism as a concept is dynamic and does nothing more than reflect the milieu of any given era in civilization.

Helping the Working Poor -- A Practical Defense of PPACA

The Health Care Bill, more often than not, raises the ire of both conservatives and progressives. They've teamed up to spread as much misinformation about the bill as possible. Why? I am not sure, because this bill goes a long way to get more people access to health care.

WATCHING MAINE

While most people spent election night watching the outcome of SB5 Ohio, I watched the election happenings in Maine. 1980 was a big year for me personally. It was the first time I’d lived in the United States since I was a small child.  I went to boarding school for my senior year of high school; my parents really thought I should know what it is like to be in America, to go to school in America and to learn to be an American. Boarding school… well that is a whole other story, but yes I ended up in Maine in boarding school and it was my first taste of living in the US for many years, I’d always been an expatriate, I was about to be something else.

For Whom The Blog Trolls

No troll is an island,
Under the blog of self.
Each is a piece of the blog,
A part of the main blog.
If a troll be washed away by the sea,
Blogs are the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manner of thine own
Or of thine friend's troll were.
Each troll's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in trollkind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the blog trolls,
It trolls for thee.

The Road Not Taken - Chapter 1

She was apprehensive sitting there at the café waiting for him. She hadn’t heard from him in 22 years, in fact it was 22 years to the day that he called her and asked her to come be with him. Sometimes things just don’t work out the way you plan them though, she couldn’t, she had made a commitment, she had a family, she wanted to be with him, they’d been together so many years before, but when he left her  those many years before, she had to move on, it was a different time.

Favorite Quotes

"The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. No, the true measure of a man is this: how quickly can he respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give." — Philip K. Dick If you want that good feeling that comes from doing things for other folks then you have to pay for it in abuse and misunderstanding. Zora Neale Hurston
