Five teenagers in Michigan, accused of killing a man with a six-pound rock hurled from an overpass on a school night last week, were denied bond on Tuesday after being charged with second-degree murder.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said Ken White, a 32-year-old father of four, was driving on Interstate 75 near Flint on Wednesday, headed home from a construction job, when a rock shattered his windshield and struck his chest and head, breaking his skull and clavicle. An autopsy ruled that his cause of death was blunt force trauma.
“It’s not a prank, it’s second-degree murder,” Sheriff Robert Pickell said at a news conference on Monday.
The Genesee County prosecutor, David Leyton, accused the teenagers of “a willful and wanton act that resulted in somebody’s death.” Mr. Leyton said they would be tried as adults [....]

This is a sad story of a needless death. One sad part of being black in America, is that you know the teens were white because race was not mentioned.

Oh, yah, youbetcha, rmrd. Clio is a small town north of the north end of Flint. One is significantly white. One is significantly black. If any newscaster that covered this story mentioned the teens were from the north end of Flint, everybody in the viewing area would know the teens were black. Likewise, a local newscaster saying the teens were from Clio would tell the viewers the teens were white.

If teens are throwing rocks off a a bridge, instead of being at the mall, it probably suggests low-income with limited community resources for teen recreation.

Seriously, rmrd0000? Is that all it suggests to you? Teen recreation, when I was in high school meant going to the drive in, and never on a school night.
Teen recreation on a school night should be homework.

It’s obviously not recreation, but it is the young male brain.

No, it maybe suggests there was a bridge near their house, probably nothing more. There isn't a major difference between races on such an obvious attractive brainfart for those still largely clueless teen years, not that every teen will take the plunge. oh yes, we can be pretty damn sure it was boys and not girls because boys do such stupid shit all the time, girls not so much.

yeah what is it in the male hormones with the liking of exploding things? I think of playing with fireworks as similiar to this drop rock from a height thing. Then there's those imaginary explosions when playing army, or even when playing engineer, preference for doing the demolition. (I am the eldest of 5 siblings, the only girl, combine with the brothers' sleepover friends, I had a large sample to view over many years.) It doesn't really go away, as we wimmins know from the movies. Before the plot can continue, we have to sit through the car chase with crash scenes where the fruit and vegetable stand is exploded allover the street.

Yep, as I always say, as long as there's a PP in the mix, all's good. Bam, Powie. Batman is a Bad Man.

And, by the way, that is Sheriff Pick-ell. Not Pickle.

My reaction as soon as I saw the story: though it may not seem "fair" that the no doubt thousands of kids who have done this before them got away with it, and they are the ones who get to be the sacrificial lambs, it's high time that doing this was taken this seriously. In this case, they had the evidence to prosecute, go for it, scare every kid by scaring every parent shitless in the U.S. to teach them: you do not do this, you have no idea the trouble it could cause, not just chipping windshields.

I'm okay with them being the sacrificial lambs. Yeah. I'm okay with it,

Me too. That guy coming home to his wife and four kids had no way to defend himself from this.
