CNN Is Imposing Strict New Rules On Its Russia Coverage

The decision came after the network deleted and retracted a post on Friday.

CNN is imposing strict new publishing restrictions for online articles involving Russia after the network deleted a story and then issued a retraction late Friday, according to an internal email obtained by BuzzFeed News.

The email went out at 11:21 a.m. on Saturday from Rich Barbieri, the CNNMoney executive editor, saying "No one should publish any content involving Russia without coming to me and Jason," a CNN vice president.

"This applied to social, video, editorial, and MoneyStream. No exceptions," the email added. "I will lay out a workflow Monday."

The new restrictions also apply to other areas of the network [....]

Three CNN staffers resigned after the network retracted a story tying a top President Trump ally to a Russian investment bank.

Thomas Frank, the author of the story, Eric Lichtblau, an editor in the CNN investigative unit that ran the story and Lex Haris, who oversaw the unit, have all left CNN, the network reported Monday.

The story connected Anthony Scaramucci, a top proponent of Trump, to a Russian investment fund run by a bank controlled by the Kremlin.

"In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story's publication," a spokesman said Monday [....]

Very unfortunate. CNN is in an existential fight with the president and his corrupt structure, and this gives him ammo to dismiss everything else. The last thing they need is a Dan Rather font-gate to kill the accurate stories there. The Steele Dossier has been largely correct, despite all the naysaying and attacks. It will continue to be dredged out and forms the basis of understanding Trump collusion. Anything Trump can do to derail this effort, he will do, and peculiarly, 30%+ of Americans and 95%+ of Republican politicians seem to backing this assault on the truth and our political system.
