The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

Tickticktick...BOOM. WILL A TWENTY BILLION DOLLAR BOMB DESTROY AMERICAN DEMOCRACY IN NOVEMBER 2012?

Thanks, Roberts Court.  Thought you were just empowering the Koch Brothers and Dick Armey with Citizens United?

         Think again, assholes.

How are you gonna like it when the Peoples' Liberation Army PAC starts spending money throwing monkey wrenches into elections at every level from school board on up?

This dystopian view is detailed in all its terrifying horror by McCamy Taylor at Democratic Underground (h/t Yves Smith for link).

I am famous for my extreme reactions to quotidian news tidbits, but this one really has me shook.  I thought it was bad enough that Prez was dialing for (a billion) dollars.  Somehow, I never really got my arms around the true dimensions of the problem created by the corporatist court.

Somebody, help  me--show me that Taylor is out his fuckin' mind.

Otherwise, point me to the Danish Embassy--I could be happy there, it's a country full of blondes and half of them are girls.

Notwithstanding my firm intention to live forever, you may be implicating time frames of limited applicability...

One thing to keep in mind - name recognition goes a long way.  As my last blog indicates, even in elections like last year, incumbents are almost voted back in.  So just looking at the seats currently held by the Democrats, the task of simply selling a new candidate to the people is not an easy task.

Moreover, while there is a lot of funds out there, they are still business people who look at the ROI.  Looking at just the congressional elections, I doubt they will just try to blanket the entire contest.  Instead they will be more targeted in their approach.

Their power rests on the uninformed and not-so-well-informed, voters who make decisions based on 15 second spots on the television set.  While we can't match the dollars, we can match the feet on the ground, getting the word out door to door, making phone calls.  For those with the enthusiasm and time, getting non-partisan forums together will also be critical.  Knowledge is power.  Swiftboating works when the people take what they see at face value.

If there was ever a year for people to get involved, this will be it.

It is being a bit optimistic to think we can have an engaged and knowledgable electorate.  But it really is our only hope.

I don't wish to be unappreciative of your attempts to offer hope....but....did you say that an informed electorate shall be our bulwerk? We are fuckin' doomed.

Yup, that about sums it up. But don't they say hope springs eternal?

A demographer has predicted that the last pure towhead in the world will be born in Denmark somewhere mid-century. I hope you will not take part in this damnable mixing of the races.

About the $20B, at some point you reach the point of diminishing returns. And Obama debating the Texecuter won't cost the Democrats any money. Still $20B is a shite load of money to go up against.

I have been blessed (?) by genetic programming w/the ability to get a directional fix on XX blonde DNA at a distance of 2000 yards...in the dark...so yeah, you bet I'm signin' up for some serious mixing. As for Brother Perry, he looks to me a lot like a young Oliver Stone. What's up w/that?

I think Perry will be the nominee. He's a good retail man. He's going to be tough and its going to be ugly.

Leaving us to ask ourselves "How have we wandered into a universe where a guy in magic underwear is the sane competitor..."?

I'm going to watch "Blade Runner" later on, could be some clues there.

Do you dream of electric sheep?

Ten style points to the man w/the Philip K. Dick reference!

    Much obliged.

No. But I think Perry might. Ah, Perry as android. Lot of possibilities there.

The perfect hair is the "tell"

Well that was hugely helpful--I am quite cheered up, as who could fail to be?

Hey, GI, me love you long time...

(Painful urination?  Drip?....I better get to a Doctor (as we civilians call medics) chop chop...and thank you, R. for this useful public service message posting.)
