    Plan B: Bloomberg before Biden

I know that there is no need for a fallback position, it's Sanders/Warren 2020 (or, you know, vice versa....)

    But just in case--

If it comes to it, as between one scumbag neoliberal and the other, I  like Mike.

At least he comes with cash.

Admin: retry - cutting racial talks, keeping threads unrepetitive

As Dagblog has devolved into talk about "whitesplaining" and "blacksplaining" and never ending polemics on racism, the Civil War, "pity Olympics", et al, from now on white Dagbloggers will no longer try to explain black people, and black Dagbloggers will no longer try to explain white people. Except for Danny and anyone else on the masthead, who can do whatever they please. (I personally will abide by my diktat).

    Cancel Culture thread, Part II

This was such a goodie that I had to start a new thread. (Here is the link to Part I with its title:IS "CANCEL CULTURE" AS BAD OR WORSE THAN THE RIGHT-WING CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT?)

He may or may not be presidential material, but he sure does have the knack for how culture change happens. Many of those Democrats in that room have socially conservative family members, friends and neighbors.

    Oh Lord,

Today's new round of  Trump disclosures means we really could  win

Unless we nominate Joe Biden. In an election whose theme  will be installing  an Administration  of normal human decency the only Dem candidate who fails that test is the one who  misused his authority to require Ukraine  to make a lavish monthly gift to his son.  .

The sad reality that is our Electoral College mandates a new version of "Clean for Gene"

It seems clear that the fate of the nation (and the world) hangs in the dank cheese cellars of Wisconsin, the hillbilly sections of rural Pennsylvania and the vote-suppressing suburbs of Michigan.

A flood of volunteers from out of state is called for.

    Trump wins again

Donald's set piece on the prior administration's  "foolish " no nuke agreement with Iran per se  -and its' associated role "providing the funding for Missile attack" could seem as evidence that he has finally lost all contact with reality and needs to be taken away for a long  rest.

On the contrary, it was a great success.

In the hours since  it's been the main topic, as he intended. As opposed the dangerous (for him) topics of the murder itself  and the need for Congress to revoke the extraordinarily improper Authorization to Use Force Resolution.

Iran Warned Over Drop in Trump Polls

    NYT today:

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Iran on Sunday that the United States could attack the country within its borders if leaders there take hostile actions against the President's interests in the aftermath of the drone strike that killed a top general.

1/n Still don't have my broken computer / all my data back from repair (hoping sometime next week). Said I'd take a break, but it's a new year/decade so I feel obligated to tweet *something*. So here's a gem I just found. Too funny. pic.twitter.com/UHWaXNRrCC

Pompeo: We Have Given Iraqi's Freedom !

Can Republican flunkies and Trump sycophants get any more cynical than Pompeo today?

Pompeo - "Iraqis — Iraqis — dancing in the street for freedom; thankful that General Soleimani is no more."

    Even Fox News reported:

It was not immediately clear where or when the footage in the tweet was recorded.....

    The Iranian assassination

When Harold Wilson's  got to Heathrow in 1964  the UK had just learned that the Brit Secy of Defense had been sleeping with the same 16 year old as the Russian ambassador . The press asked Wilsonwhat he thought.

    Answer:   " No comment"

                     "In technicolor"

Which is what we should be saying tonight :     Practice .

AOC is Joan of fucking Arc!

Bernie Sanders was resurrected (from real, not virtual, near death...) by her endorsement, and his donations have exploded as reported today (35 Million for 4th Q 2019)

I used to say that she was a political  comet.  That's incorrect.

    It's social conservative spin, BUT

this which I noticed because Andrew Sullivan retweeted it, it's worth a look to see both:

    1) what we will see more of as white male privilege is made the main bogeyman in our culture, and

    2) how one can vie in the victimhood Olympics with selective stats:

Biden to Trump: Sure, I'll testify at the impeachment--jointly with you, punk.

Which, of course, he did not say, thus wasting a golden opportunity.

Why should Biden duck testifying, anyway?  if it were, say, AOC, or some other clapback *artist, the chance to make a direct attack on Trump with wall to wall tv coverage would be gold.

We had "Freedom Fries", they got:

    Trump's gaining

at least if you accept the composite poll of polls  with which 538 today tops his report.

The actual  Trump numbers it posts on the right axis are  52.1 disapprove, 43.4 approve.

I don't  have access to its  similar earlier  reports   but if you overlook the unsophisticated  approach . I confess to just placing   a transparent ruler on today's chart point  reflecting today's  approval , the highest since his swearing in before   " the greatest crowd in the history of Inaugerations (or was it  all   pubic events ever.)

One of the Fugs most poignant renderings was a song called Wide, Wide River (of Shit,) the theme of which was an impending surge of misfortune in which the world might drown.  I believe it had something to do with Vietnam.

"The Man Who Predicted Nazi Germany"

In 1919, John Maynard Keynes foresaw the chaos that would follow from the Versailles peace treaty.

Guest op-ed by Dr. Jonathan Kirshner (professor of political science at Boston College) @ NYTimes.com, Dec. 7

On Dec. 8, 1919, Macmillan Press published a book by a relatively obscure British Treasury official who had resigned from the government in protest over the Versailles treaty that brought the epochal trauma of the First World War to its conclusion.
