If you guys get the chance, check out the Think Progress article and watch, in full, the video interview that McCain does. McCain is really getting up there in years but he is more lucid and sensible than many people a quarter of his age. Both him and Obama are speaking reality on race issues in America - it may be frustrating for many white people to admit that we "still have a long way to go" when we have desegregated, had Affirmative Action programs and had black leaders in almost all the top spots in our government but the reality, obviously, is that things are less than perfect. It is a mature country that would be aware of its faults and failings.

McCain sees the handwriting on the wall. Trashing Obama is failing as good politics for GOP members. He is going to push hard against obstructionism and racism because he wants to stay important.

I don't think that's what's going on here at all. It's more racial issues in the US as a whole that he is talking about here.
