As the twig bends, so grows the branch...(see also the unfortunate "wedgie incident"...)
Unraveling the Gordian knot of media issues in the Oregon standoff between federal authorities and a Patriot/Militia alliance of building occupiers is a daunting task. Some journalists have written excellent, thoughtful articles, and some have wasted wood pulp and bandwidth.
At a campaign rally in New Hampshire last weekend, Clinton called for getting rid of the policy, calling it a law that makes it “harder for low-income women to exercise their full rights.” She continued, “Any right that requires you to take extraordinary measures to access it is no right at all.” Then again on Monday evening, at the Brown & Black Presidential Forum at Drake University, Clinton confirmed that she believes Congress should repeal the Hyde Amendment, calling the right to an abortion “a fundamental human right.”
Here’s what Dean said:
They [his supporters] were deeply invested in having somebody who wasn’t going to be putting up any with crap from the establishment. And having been a governor for six terms, I knew very well that the governor has to put up with crap from everybody. Your job is to make things work and that means that you can’t exclude people, whether you like them or not…I had to teach them an incredibly unpleasant lesson, which was that people like me don’t win presidencies behaving like that. You have to deal with the reality that includes a whole lot of people that aren’t progressive…and I was going to have to teach them that that was going to be part of the deal.
Somewhere Joe must feel really aggrieved. After months of having his dead son shill for him to enter the race, and his long Hamlet-inspired decision, he's back to wrap the noose around her neck. With frenemies like this, who needs fambily?
More I wonder who actually cares? Biden was always themilque toast guy sent in to cut an unpalatable deal, roll it over. Mr. Insurance is now an export on income inequality? Took him long enough to figure it out.
By my count, Hillary has endorsements from 197 congresspeople and governors, while Bernie had 2, now a 3rd. My only real reaction is "Why did she take on a role with these fuckers? They were never going to give her credit for playing with the team." except of course she would have burned out playing a kibbutz z Ing Sarah Palin on the sideline.
My 2nd reaction is "where do they get these polls saying Bernie will beat any Republican? GOP central? Burlington bambus paper? These bastards have so much money they'll swamp him, and he'll be stuck stammering with one of his Bernieisms. Nice guy, but democracy shouldn't be a suicide pact. Dems won the last 2 elections by only 7%, AMD there's little about the eloquent-spoken next generation message that Bernie can grab onto - who were the Dems best bets over the last 50 years? JFK, RFK, Carter, Clinton, and Obama - all symbols of change. There's not much new Sanders can offer, especially with the way the conservative movement's changed things. Even in 1972 when Bowie declared himself gay he was doomed in "puritanical" America. It ain't got better the last 15 years. Gamble it away, but they're setting us up if we think this is a Berning point - reads both ways.
David Bowie has died after a battle with cancer, his rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 69.
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief," read a statement posted on the artist's official social media accounts.
Rest in peace.
Former NYC Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, is once again considering a third party run for President. Would that split the vote enough to allow for the unthinkable ... a Donald Trump victory?
Hey people, so I tried writing something about this for Dagblog and it totally got wiped. I don't want to be paranoid but....
With primary voting set to start soon, one of Hillary Clinton’s remaining hurdles is convincing Democratic voters that she is not beholden to Wall Street and other wealthy interests that have fattened her family’s bank account with tens of millions of dollars for paid speeches
I don't read this as an older "hit piece", though I'm sure some will disagree. I think it's important to see a candidate as a whole person - is it debatable that Hillary has been picked apart over a large number of years? It's fair to look back on Bernie's path.
Looks like $37m of Hillary's take was hard cash, putting her with $38m cash-on-hand.
For the populist inclined, "The campaign noted that more than 60 percent of donations came from women, and 94 percent of all donations in the final quarter of the year were $100 or less."
Assuming January fundraising goes well and spending doesn't go overboard, she should be well set for February contests & the 30 or so March contests.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders may be a strong voice on income inequality but his positions on military spending and foreign policy are muddled and his criticism of ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s neocon-oriented world view is muted, as anti-war activist David Swanson notes in this book review.
Yum, justice American doggie style.
Guess this is the new Don't Tase Me Bro...
Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley has tried to hold more debates, even without the party's blessing, he said Tuesday. He said he even asked fellow Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to debate him. Sanders turned him down, O'Malley told MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "You think I haven't done that?" O'Malley said when former DNC Chairman Howard Dean asked him why he didn't challenge Sanders to a one-on-one debate. "I've done that," he continued. "I asked Sen. Sanders. Sen. Sanders doesn't want to do more debates either. He kind of liked where it is."
Apparently the 14th Amendment still doesn't apply to the 2nd Amendment.
"Don't Tase Me, Bro"? how about "Don't Shoot Me Down in Cold Blood".
Or the motto of the nation's police, "Mistakes Happen"
Remember Lee Majors and his artificial $6 million man? Well Trump thinks he's about 2000x better, faking a budget and unaffordable slashes to government, like a true RoboGOP Trumpinator would - let's play "guess the real Rep(ub)licant" Will we wrap this around his neck, $1 trillion a year Unsustainable cuts? Or will we talk haircuts and insults forever? Make him own it - budget on the moon or in the clapper? You decide. But keep it front and center - this ain't trickle down - it's a gusher to his friends.
Note: Politico just published its 29 most outrageous comments list - 3 unsurprisingly to Hillary - and Trump's ridiculous $10 trillion tax cuts didn't make it. Shows what passes for important in media land.
In the view of Syrians, the country’s president, Bashar al Assad, and his ally, Iran, have more support than do the forces arrayed against him, according to a public opinion poll taken last summer by a research firm that is working with the US and British governments. [1]
Bernie with some great ideas here. I'm not a big Glass-Steagall fan but I really like his idea that the Fed should not be run by banking insiders. Independence for the Fed should mean independence from the banks as much as from politics.
What we hear in Britain – and in Western media generally – about what is going on in Russia is so different from what I observe in all those cities and towns, in the universities and schools and public offices, in the shops and markets that I feel an obligation to challenge our media.
